Family Mealtime with your Baby

Family Meal Time with Bub

Posted in 6+ Months, Baby's First Foods, Introducing Solid Food, Parent Know-How

One of the best ways to get your baby to enjoy food is to include them in family meal times. It’s never really too young to start them. Even if you’re all sitting around the table and you feeding your baby with a spoon from some of the food you’ve made or from a pouch, they can still engage in family mealtimes as they will observe and learn so much about the social aspect of eating that will help them become competent eaters for life. Remember there will probably be a big mess when your baby’s involved in mealtimes. They may play with the food a lot more than they actually eat it. For the first 12 months of your baby’s life, food really serves a purpose more in the oral and motor skill development. For them to learn how to chew food, move it around their mouth and get their tongue to push it at the back of their mouth so they can swallow it.
