Get the right equipment for your baby's first foods

Introducing your baby's first foods is a fun time for both of you and the right equipment helps when you start the food journey with your little one. Much of it you’ll probably already have. But as with anything to do with babies you’ll also find plenty of ‘designer’ equivalents. Whether you choose to go state of the art or kitchen basics, try and keep it simple when compiling your essentials from the list below:

  • Small plastic feeding bowls
  • Shallow lipped plastic spoons
  • Plastic mat for the floor (essential as a sanity saver)
  • Clean wash cloths or baby wipes
  • Bibs
  • Non-spill cups for water
  • Variable fit steaming basket (available from most supermarkets)
  • Sieve or mouli (food mill)
  • Stick blender (good for larger quantities but not essential)
  • Small plastic containers with tight fitting lids
  • Ice cube trays
  • Ziplock bags for holding your cubes or larger quantities of pre-prepared food
  • Permanent marker for labeling frozen food
  • Sturdy high chair with a five point harness
